New Fence Pre-Staining for Fence Builders and Installers

Give every new fence protection from day one. Tom Sawyer pre-stains new fences for installers across San Diego County, on-site or as pre-stained lumber.

Why Pre-Staining Matters to Your Customers

A brand new wood fence is at its most vulnerable, and its most receptive to stain, in the days right after installation. Raw, freshly milled lumber has open pores and minimal surface contamination, so stain penetrates deeper and bonds better than it ever will again. Pre-staining coats every board on all six sides, including bottoms, edges and the hidden faces where rail meets picket that cannot be reached once the fence is assembled.

Two Ways to Work With Us

  • On-site pre-staining: we stain the new fence right after you install it, while the wood is clean, dry and ready to absorb.
  • Pre-stained lumber: order cedar, redwood or pressure-treated lumber through Tom Sawyer Fence Supply; boards are stained before delivery and arrive ready to install.
  • Your customer picks a Stain & Seal Supply color (semi-transparent or semi-solid); we handle the rest.

What Installers Get

  • Faster installs: no waiting for stain to dry on-site.
  • A fence that looks finished the moment it goes up.
  • UV and moisture protection from day one, before the wood starts to gray.
  • One source for lumber and staining: one order, one delivery, one invoice.
  • An embeddable Zone Zero fire-zone checker for your own website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with fence installation companies?+

Yes. Tom Sawyer Fence Painting works directly with fence installation companies across San Diego County to pre-stain new fences right after they are built. Ask your installer about coordinating with us, or call 858-754-9842 and we will reach out to them.

Why pre-stain instead of staining later?+

New wood has open pores that have not been contaminated by dirt, mildew or weathering, so stain penetrates deeper and bonds better. Once wood has weathered and grayed, it needs to be stripped and brightened before staining.

What wood types do you pre-stain?+

All common fence woods, including Western Red Cedar, Redwood, Douglas Fir and pressure-treated pine. Each wood type has different characteristics, and we select the product and technique for each.

Can boards arrive already stained?+

Yes. Through Tom Sawyer Fence Supply, boards can be pre-stained before delivery and arrive on-site ready to install, with no drying time on the job.

Can you help my customers with Zone Zero questions?+

Partners can embed the Tom Sawyer Zone Zero checker on their website so customers can check whether California's new fire zone fence rules apply to their property. Call 858-754-9842 to set up a partner code.
